Why use Dermáme?
Emollient: Squalane is easily absorbed deep into the skin leaving the skin supple and flexible without any greasy residue left behind. Cosmetic studies with biometric molecules investigated with experimental designs in order to study the optimal composition of a squalene mixture in an oil-in-water emulsion showed results that the viscosity and stability of the emulsions were the greatest influence on the percentage of squalane. Thus makes it a suitable component for cosmetic products.
Anti Aging Properties: According to the February 2010 issue of the SOFW-Journal, squalene’s hydrating and skin-softening effects helps in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, thus helping maintain healthy, glowing skin.
Protection against UV Rays: According to a study conducted by K. Ohsawa, et al., published in May 1984, they found that squalene protects skin from damage caused due to UV radiation. Squalene extracted from shark oil can have an odor and thus

it is purified further for more stability. Thus prescription acne creams such as Adapalene and cosmetic companies use squalane in sunblock creams.
Skin Hydration: Occlusion leads to increased skin hydration, as there is less water loss. That being the case, Rissmann et al. revealed that a vernix caseosa (VC) should be an innovation barrier for those with skin that lacks it. This is because vernix caseosa facilitates stratum corneum hydration. For this purpose, a study was conducted wherein several lipid fractions were isolated from lanolin and were subsequently mixed with squalene, ceramides, triglycerides, cholesterol, and fatty acids to generate semi-synthetic lipid mixtures close to VC. The research showed promising results with an increased rate of barrier recovery. Okuda et al. also found that in skin treated in 5% sodium lauryl sulfate, the elevated levels of trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) and riboflavin penetration were reversed by squalene supplementation. According to the MedLibrary.org, Squalene has humectant properties that increase the water retention capacity of the skin, thus leaving the skin soft and supple.
